I have extensive experience in the steps of producing publishable work in a variety of genres. I’ve published poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, opinion, journalism, book reviews, blog posts, and scholarly essays. I’ve helped people who don’t consider themselves writers nonetheless craft essays that pass academic peer review. I want to help you produce publishable writing as well.

I have a broad understanding of grammar, syntax, and mechanics, partly because I’ve studied them and partly because I’ve always had a pretty good ear for those things. This means that I am able to imitate someone’s voice when I edit and suggest additions and revisions that sound like the writer. I strive to make my work invisible so that you look good.

I enjoy research and read scholarship in a variety of fields for pleasure (history, religion, and gender are the top three). I’m good at identifying top-tier issues and their underlying intricacies, extracting patterns of consequence and meaning, and presenting information in an accessible way. I have a PhD in English literature with an emphasis in contemporary American literary nonfiction. Memoir often involves disclosing intimate details and discussing the most devastating moments in a person’s life.
